WSJ Uses Roy Moore to Attack Steve Bannon

Why attack Steve Bannon? Because he is against the GOP Establishment.

Wall Street Journal’s editorial board’s decision to attack Steve Bannon doesn’t bother me that much. I just wish they would be a little bit more honest. Roy Moore ran for the Senate based on real differences with the GOP establishment. There is no reason to believe that the support of Steve Bannon prevented him from losing the Republican primary.

Furthermore, lots of establishment Republican politicians have been involved in scandal. Does that make the Wall Street Journal the “partial architect” of those messes, as they say of Steve Bannon? It is sad if Roy Moore is disqualified for office, but that wouldn’t be Bannon’s fault.

The Wall Street Editorial Board writes under the headline, “Bannon’s Senate Minority.

The truth is that Mr. Bannon is a partial architect of this mess. He’ll support any Republican candidate who promises to vote against Mr. McConnell for Senate leader, and when that’s your only political standard you end up with oddballs and misfits as candidates. Judge Moore twice lost his Alabama Supreme Court seat because he refused to enforce court orders, so his potential for self-implosion wasn’t news.

Luther Strange, the current Senator who was appointed by Alabama’s former Governor to replace Attorney General Jeff Sessions, is every bit as conservative as Mr. Moore without the flakiness.

As for Mr. Bannon, we’re beginning to suspect that he wants Republicans to lose the Senate because it’s easier to rage in opposition. He may get his wish.

Believe it or not, Wikipedia gives a much more fair summary of how Judge Moore was removed from office and voted back in before he was removed again. I don’t know what sins Judge Moore may have committed, but his “potential for self-implosion” looks more like heroic loyalty to the Republic as founded. The voters in Alabama thought so.
