House Speaker [score]Paul Ryan[/score] (R-WI) is in a world of trouble. What is amazing is that Rep. Ryan should be enjoying the pinnacle of his career. He was recently elected the Speaker of the House by his colleagues, and he continues to lead the effort to craft the House GOP game plan for changing the culture of Washington, D.C. That was all before the rise of Donald Trump, and Rep. Ryan’s decision to hold off on giving Mr. Trump his endorsement. Now, Ryan faces stiff competition, not just as leader of the party, but in his home district from Wisconsin.
Candidate Paul Nehlen is fighting hard to unseat Rep. Ryan as the representative from Wisconsin’s 1st District, and he’s earned some big endorsements along the way. Recently he called in to MSNBC to scoff at the idea that Paul Ryan could unite the GOP.
Paul Nehlen: “Who is Paul Ryan to lecture anybody about uniting around conservatism? If you look at President Obama’s top three policy initiatives — comprehensive immigration reform, the Trans-Pacific Partnership, as I mentioned in my video there, and criminal justice reform, Paul Ryan is the champion enabler of those.
He’s uniting with Hillary Clinton’s State Department around the Trans-Pacific Partnership. Paul Ryan’s uniting with Barack Obama on comprehensive immigration reform and criminal justice reform. It’s not surprising.
I’m honored to have Governor Palin’s endorsement. We’re building a broad coalition. Wisconsin’s First District is suffering under Paul Ryan’s lack of votes on behalf of Wisconsin’s First District, quite honestly lack of votes on behalf of American workers…
It’s a broad coalition that we’re build building. Fundraising, that’s not an issue. Paul Ryan has $7 million, the last I checked I think. 83% of that campaign financing came from outside our district and the vast majority came from inside the D.C. beltway…
Paul Ryan doesn’t have the solution because he’s not a business guy. Paul Ryan’s been a career politician.”
