The Democrat candidate for Governor in Illinois is literally in the toilet and is now under fire for a fraudulent tax scheme that got him hundreds of thousands in lower property taxes. It is a scheme so bad that now the entire Republican delegation to Congress is calling for an investigation.
Illinois Democrat J.B. Pritzker is remarkable for having an unremarkable resume for running for governor. Not only does he have no experience in government, but even as a billionaire he has little experience in creating wealth because most of his money is inherited wealth. So, he isn’t even the veritable “self-made millionaire” that many rich candidates are as they make their first stab at elected office.
He also has no real platform other than the prosaic “I’ll give away everything free” style of Democrat nonsense that we see so often. While that may also seem unremarkable seeing as how it is standard Democrat boilerplate, the fact that he is still running on the tax and spend, Santa Claus Democrat playbook even in the most bankrupt, over taxed, and financially underwater state in the union is amazing, to say the least.
In any case, the rotund Pritzker — whose grossly obese weight would make him a stand-in for Chris Christie if he were a Republican (and whose weight is otherwise ignored by the corrupt Illinois media) — is practically a nothing candidate. He has an unremarkable personality, unremarkable history, and an unremarkable campaign.
But recently he has found something to be remarkable about. His HUGE $330,000 property tax break. It is how he achieved this amazing savings that has him in trouble.
He turned his gigantic mansion into an uninhabitable hovel tax-wise. How did he do it? He removed the toilets from most of his many bathrooms to make it seem as if he didn’t have such a grandiose spread.
Per Daily Caller:
Cook County Inspector General Patrick Blanchard concluded in a confidential report in late September that Pritzker, a multi-billionaire, intentionally made one of his mansions “uninhabitable” by removing the toilets in the property in a scheme to obtain more than $330,000 in property tax breaks.
Pritzker’s wife ordered the toilets removed with no intention to reinstall them about 10 days prior to an inspection of the property in October 2015, the watchdog stated in his report, which was first reported by the Chicago Sun-Times. The appraisal firm, unaware of the removal of the toilets, reduced the property’s value from $6.25 million to under $1.1 million.
“As a result, the County ultimately fell victim to a scheme to defraud, executed in part through the use of affidavits, and which resulted in the property owner ultimately receiving property tax refunds totaling $132,747.18 for the years 2012, 2013 and 2014, as well as additional tax savings of $198,684.85 for the years 2015 and 2016,” the report stated.
In the recent past, Pritzker has defended his scheme to defraud the county of hundreds of thousands in property taxes. He just employed the arcane rules to his favor, he said. But, suddenly Pritzker is changing his tune and saying he’ll pay the taxes back into the county.
But that hasn’t stopped the Republican delegation to Congress from seeking an investigation.
All seven of the state’s remaining Republican congressmen have signed a letter demanding that something be done.
“Illinois, perhaps more than any other state, has suffered greatly due to public corruption,” the Illinois Republican Congressional delegation said in its letter urging a full investigation of the matter.
“Four of Illinois’ last nine governors have gone to prison,” the letter continued. “It is important to send a strong signal to the people of Illinois that no one is above the law, not even billionaires running for Governor.”
It isn’t likely that the most corrupt state in the union will do anything about this and entirely fitting that a billionaire who defrauded the people out of hundreds of thousands in taxes is about to become the state’s governor. But that’s why the only happy Illinois citizens are those who have moved out of the state.
