Wall Street Journal Millionaires Defend NFL Millionaires, Blame Trump

Naturally, the Wall Street Journal has no problem with working class Americans being insulted as racists by an entertainment monopoly.

The Wall Street Journal editorial board has decided to weigh in against “The Politicization of Everything,” according to their headline. They are addressing the Trump-NFL flap.

(Note: I don’t know that Wall Street Journal editors are personally millionaires, but the often represent the Wall Street consensus which is made up of such people.)

You would think that, if they were against “politicization,” the Wall Street Journal editors would tell the NFL to leave politics alone and tell well-paid millionaires to express their divisive beliefs on their own time.

Nope. They mention the NFL aggression but blame President Trump as if he somehow “politicized” the NFL by responding to players’ antics.

All of this is cultural catnip for Donald Trump, who pounced on Friday night at a rally and on the weekend on Twitter with his familiar combination of gut political instinct, rhetorical excess, and ignorance. “Wouldn’t you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, ‘Get that son of a bitch off the field right now, out, he’s fired. He’s fired,’” Mr. Trump said Friday.

No doubt most Americans agree with Mr. Trump that they don’t want their flag disrespected, especially by millionaire athletes. But Mr. Trump never stops at reasonable, and so he called for kneeling players to be fired or suspended, and if the league didn’t comply for fans to “boycott” the NFL.

Donald Trump always starts with a strong hand in his rhetoric. Good or bad, it is nothing new. But if Trump hadn’t stepped in, no one of any significance would have spoken for the viewers who simply want to watch a football game without being told the absurdity that the millionaires on the field are oppressed and that America is a racist dystopia.

Certainly, the Wall Street Journal editorial board would not have bothered.
