University Won’t Sponsor Debate because of Harmful Conservative Views

A center of higher education can’t sponsor debate and risk exposing students to wrong ideas.

Since immigration is such a hot topic recently, Seattle University School of Law wanted to sponsor debate over the issue. But students protested and now the school is no longer sponsoring the debate. Apparently, we can’t allow students to be exposed to wrong ideas or to be led to believe that there are reasons for a view that might differ from their own view.

The Daily Caller reports, “University Drops Sponsorship Of Immigration Debate For Fear Of Exposing Students To ‘Harmful’ Views.

Seattle University School of Law is dropping its sponsorship of an October 16 debate on illegal immigration due to fears that exposing students to conservative views will be too “painful” for them.

The speech was originally co-hosted by the school’s Federalist Society, a conservative organization, and the university’s Access to Justice Institute.

The university made the decision after 200 students signed a petition demanding the school to cancel the event, which they considered to be “harmful.” It leaves the school’s Federalist Society as the event’s sole sponsor.
