Trump Tweets Photo of Schumer and Putin, Calls for an Investigation!

Chuck Schumer as well as most other Democrats want Jeff Sessions to resign because of his alleged lying under oath during his confirmation hearing about his meetings with Russian officials.

We just reported Friday about Chuck Schumer’s 2003 meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in New York City. It’s ironic given the ire the Democrats have not just over Jeff Sessions, but also over Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign and his entire current administration with regards to Russia.

The Russia narrative is a complete red herring. This is the Democrats’ ‘resistance’ strategy. This is how they’re going to try to fight Trump and his administration. Based on this manufactured narrative, they’re going to pick off every one of Trump’s cabinet appointees by pointing out some dubious Russian ‘connection,’ all the way up to the President himself.

The problem is, they all have Russian ‘connections.’ That’s because Russia is a foreign country and one of our allies. And our senators, representatives, and other high profile politicians have diplomatic relationships with them. That’s why politicians might have a hard time remembering every meeting they had with the Russian ambassador. It’s because Russia is one of scores of others that U.S. officials meet with on a regular basis. At some point, I’m sure it all starts to meld together.

On Friday, President Trump tweeted out the now-infamous photo of Schumer and Putin and called for an investigation:

Part of me wonders if Trump is not being serious. It would actually be good politics, because Trump knows this is all a joke. Trump is simply playing the game with Schumer. He probably tweeted it with a smirk on his face.

Is there something nefarious about Schumer’s 10-minute meeting with Putin 14 years ago? No, I don’t think so. Just like I don’t think there was anything unusual about Claire McCaskill or Nancy Pelosi or former President Obama meeting with Russian officials.

I think it’s about as newsworthy as General Flynn talking to the Russian foreign minister and then-Senator Sessions meeting with the Russian ambassador.
