What a big night for Senator [score]Ted Cruz[/score] (R-TX). In the last few weeks Donald Trump reclaimed the lead in the Iowa GOP primary polls and steadily increased that lead right up until the day before the caucuses. The last polls of the state showed Donald Trump with a lead of anywhere between 1 to 7 points! The RCP polling average showed Trump ahead by an average of 5%, but at the end of the day, none of that mattered. Cruz rolled to victory, beating Trump by 4%, [score]Marco Rubio[/score] by 5%, and breaking the record for most votes accumulated by one GOP candidate in a primary!
Let me say that again…

No GOP presidential candidate has ever won as many votes for their candidacy in Iowa as Ted Cruz did on Monday night.
No one. Ever.
Ted Cruz has already set a record for most Iowa caucus votes received by a single candidate. #iacaucus

Remember, according to polling average, Cruz was the *underdog* coming into tonight. Down 5 points to Trump in polls. Welp…

What makes this feat even more amazing is the fact that there are less registered Republicans in Iowa today than there were last year, so it’s not as if there was a sudden surge in new voters. Ted Cruz’s victory is a very big deal, not just in Iowa, but around the country. Also, it’s not just Ted Cruz’s victory, but it’s a victory for the anti-establishment and the conservative movements. (I used to lump these two things together, but I don’t think we can anymore.) Consider this – between Cruz, Trump, Rubio, Dr. Ben Carson, [score]Rand Paul[/score] and Carly Fiorina, the “anti-establishment” candidates won 90% of the vote. 90%. If we subtract Paul and Fiorina, the top 4 candidates (all anti-establishment) won 84% of the final vote tally. Jeb Bush, John Kasich, Chris Christie, Mike Huckabee, Rick Santorum and Jim Gilmore combined for 10% of the vote. GOP voters in Iowa hate the establishment, folks. I think we are going to see this pattern repeated across the country. Erick Erickson of the Resurgent went into more depth on what this victory means for Ted Cruz. Ted Cruz is winning Iowa. His ground game pushed him through and put him over polling that suggested he would lose to Donald Trump. But Ted Cruz has not only outperformed, he is the only politician in America to successfully turn Donald Trump into a loser. The media would prefer you look at Marco Rubio’s commendable showing, but given the polling spreads, Ted Cruz actually outperformed Marco Rubio. Cruz is leaving Iowa with a bigger win above polling averages than Rubio gets in third place. And did I mention that Ted Cruz beat Donald Trump? At a time when every Republican establishment leader in America piled on Ted Cruz and at a time when Iowa’s own Governor led an effort among Iowa Republicans to stop Cruz and at a time when many Republicans decided to ally with Trump to stop Cruz, Ted Cruz beat them all. Cruz has withstood more negative attacks than Trump, a united opposition from the establishment, and still wins. He leaves Iowa with more money in the bank than any of the other candidates. He leaves Iowa the Trump slayer. And he leaves Iowa as the conservative choice. Ted Cruz leaves Iowa the front-runner. The media hopes you pay attention to Marco Rubio’s position. Some more reaction to the Big Night:
. @tedcruz wins Iowa Caucus. Trump second. Rubio a close third. Values Matter.

In his victory speech, Cruz said “God” more times than all the democrat debates and town hall combined. God makes a comeback. #IowaCaucus

Meanwhile the Democrat voters of Iowa split their vote 50-50 between a haggard old socialist and “Bernie” [score]Bernard Sanders[/score]…
When a sane liberal realizes one of their choices is a socialist and the other should be in prison…they become a conservative. #IowaCaucus

And, oh, by the way — the GOP voters in Iowa just gave 60% of their vote to two Latinos and an African-American. Meanwhile, 100% of the Democrat vote went to really old white people. Which Party loves diversity? One last thing – Mike Huckabee has officially called it quits.
I am officially suspending my campaign. Thank you for all your loyal support. #ImWithHucK
