Students Traumatized by “Welcome White Week,” But Not Welcome Black Week

A school with “Welcome Black Week” or a Black Student Union is a school that champions what liberals call “diversity” and “inclusivity.” As soon as something emerges like “Welcome White Week” or a White Student Union, that’s what they call “racial intolerance.”

Welcome Black Week has been a part of Northern Kentucky University (NKU) for several years. According to Heat Street, it’s “intended to introduce incoming freshmen to the array of programs and organizations focusing on the black experience.”

It was only a matter of time before some group of college students decided to respond to Welcome Black Week with Welcome White Week. And the offended students’ reaction to Welcome White Week was just as predictable. And priceless.

Students posted the “White Week” flyers around campus. The flyers advertised fake upcoming events such as a volleyball tournament between Black Lives Matter and White Lives Matter, and “L.G.B.T.Q.R.S.T.U.V and You.” (You’ve got to admit that’s funny.) Other students were traumatized by the flyers, such that they stood hand-in-hand in a circle and chanted, “We will not be guided by fear and defeat,” and “We will beat the odds that are against us.”

The university newspaper’s editor tweeted out:

From Heat Street:

“We worked hard for Welcome Black Week in response to the lack of representation in the universal programs within Welcome Week,” said Junior James Johnson, one of the organizers of the protest. “The reason they did this [posted the “Welcome White Week” flyer] was because we had Welcome Black Week. The reason we had Welcome Black Week was because we weren’t initially included in the festivities the university has.”

Students weren’t the only people all worked up about the racially offensive flyers. School administrators were as well, and the incident is being investigated aggressively. No one has yet come forward and claimed responsibility for the hate crime.
