In yet another sign of the apocalypse…
A High School student at Dyer County High School in Tennessee was recently suspended, all because she chose to say “Bless You” when a classmate of hers sneezed.
Speaking of her teacher, senior Kendra Turner said, “She said that we’re not going to have godly speaking in her class and that’s when I said we have a constitutional right,” the student said.
When Turner tried to defend herself, she says the teacher sent her to the administrators, where she was forced to finish the class in in-school suspension (ISS). Her classmates sent the local news station, WMC Action News 5, a picture of the teacher’s white board, which lists “bless you” and other expressions that are banned as part of the class room’s rules.
“There were several students that were talking about this particular faculty member there that was very demeaning to them in regard to their faith,” the youth pastor said.
The school says that the Turner had caused a distraction in the class with her outburst and that she actually shouted “bless you” across the room. Her teacher also says that Turner was being disruptive and aggressive.
On the Tuesday after the incident, several of her classmates showed up to school wearing handmade t-shirts that said “bless you.” For her part, the high school senior says that she doesn’t want to get her teacher in trouble, but she feels the need to stand up for her beliefs.
“It’s alright to defend God and it’s our constitutional right because we have a freedom of religion and freedom of speech,” said Turner.
Folks, we have to support our students because every day they get hammered with stuff that is contrary to what we teach in the home. If parents desire to see their children develop into people that espouse the same values and ideas they do… then it’s vital that we play an active role in their daily lives. Not just in the home… but also as part of their education, their extra-curriculars and with their friends. There is nothing more important than our children.
