Statements from the Duggar Family on the Revelations of Josh Duggar’s Infidelity

I have to admit something to you all… I secretly enjoyed watching the Duggar family TV show, 19 Kids and Counting with my wife back when it was at its height of popularity. I really appreciated the love, affection, kindness, grace, compassion and good works that flowed from the Duggar family, and I still appreciate the witness and testimony that Jim Bob and Michelle display for the world. I have been as saddened, as many of you have, for the moral failings of their eldest son Josh but believe that everyone and anyone can be forgiven because that is what the Bible promises.

Now Josh Duggar has been unmasked again for having an account with the adultery website and his family is once again suffering. Our prayers and well wishes go out to his wife Anna and to their children. We also pray for comfort because we know that God can heal even this.

Matt Barber at wrote an excellent analysis that I think is worth sharing.

“The wages of sin is death.” That includes death of marriages and families. At our hearts break and our prayers go out for the Duggar family and for all the 32-million-plus families devastated by the willful sins of certain family members and of a wicked website that makes a profit off the backs of those families it helps to destroy. As Proverbs 6 rhetorically asks: “Can a man carry fire next to his chest and his clothes not be burned? Or can one walk on hot coals and his feet not be scorched? So is he who goes in to his neighbor’s wife; none who touches her will go unpunished. . . . of his house. He who commits adultery lacks sense; he who does it destroys himself.” We are sinners all and, absent the saving grace of Christ Jesus, Creator of the Heavens and earth, we are each destined to get exactly that which we deserve. – Matt Barber

Below you’ll find statements from Jim Bob and Michelle as well as from Josh himself.

Statement from Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar:

Please see the statement below from our son Josh regarding recent media stories about him. When we learned of this late last night our hearts were broken. As we continue to place our trust in God we ask for your prayers for Josh, Anna, our grandchildren and our entire family.

Statement from Josh Duggar:

I have been the biggest hypocrite ever. While espousing faith and family values, I have secretly over the last several years been viewing pornography on the internet and this became a secret addiction and I became unfaithful to my wife.

I am so ashamed of the double life that I have been living and am grieved for the hurt, pain and disgrace my sin has caused my wife and family, and most of all Jesus and all those who profess faith in Him.

I brought hurt and a reproach to my family, close friends and the fans of our show with my actions that happened when I was 14-15 years old, and now I have re-broken their trust.

The last few years, while publicly stating I was fighting against immorality in our country, I was hiding my own personal failings.

As I am learning the hard way, we have the freedom to choose to our actions, but we do not get to choose our consequences. I deeply regret all hurt I have caused so many by being such a bad example.

I humbly ask for your forgiveness. Please pray for my precious wife Anna and our family during this time.
