For as long as I can remember the phrase, “Taste the rainbow,” has been the Skittles’ slogan. That’s their thing. Their candy is different colors of the rainbow and they have banked on using that as their branding. Everyone knows it!
Unfortunately, political correctness is an epidemic and it is even putting a damper on our candy.
Skittles candy is temporarily tossing their famous rainbow theme because they feel it is pulling attention from the LGBT community. They want them to have “center stage” to celebrate their pride month. So in the United Kingdom and Germany, Skittles have been coming out in all-white. Im sure that is a controversy in itself, just waiting to happen.
Fox News reports:
Trending: Evidence of the Silicon Valley Cult
Michelle Green, a spokeswoman for the Chicago-based Wrigley Company, which makes Skittles, tells The Associated Press that since rainbow colors are identified with both LGBT pride and Skittles, the candy maker chose one color during the celebrations “in order for Pride’s rainbow to take center stage.”
June is LGBT Pride month. The Skittles switch began in late March and wraps up in September. The candy is sold in a black-and-white wrapper.
The move has received a mixed reaction on social media. Some Twitter users like it, but others are critical of the selection of white for the campaign, saying it plays against the nod to diversity.
The Huffington Post posted an article titled, “Some People Think Skittles’ All-White Pride Candies Are Racist.”
The article states the some say by going all-white, Skittles fails to reflect racial diversity within the gay community.
I am slightly dumbfounded at the fact that a brand can completely change their product for gender dysphoria but it is racist for being white, which is literally just the color we see when something is void of all colors.
Wrigley spokesperson said, “diversity and inclusion are also key values for us.”
This is just ridiculous. The entire thing.
