Second Amendment Supporter and Boston Red Sox Star Refuses to Apologize for Saying Hitler Disarmed the Jews

Boston Red Sox star J.D. Martinez says he won’t apologize for his support of the Second Amendment when critics attacked him for saying that Hitler came to power by taking away people’s right to own guns.

Critics began slamming Martinez for a 2013 post on Instagram that featured a photo of WWII madman Adolph Hitler and the phrase, “To conquer a nation, first disarm its citizens.”

At the time, Martinez added, “This is why I will always stay strapped! #thetruth” to the post.

But now, Martinez is standing by his five-year-old post and says he won’t delete it or apologize for it.

Per Fox News:

“I love my country. I stand by the Constitution and I stand by the Second Amendment,” he said when asked about the photo, according to the New York Daily News.

He added that he wasn’t aware the quote was falsely attributed to the German dictator, according to the Providence Journal

“It was one of those things where I was really touched at the time,” he said. “I saw it and I posted it. I had no intent to offend anyone. It was mostly just to state a point — a political point at the time.”

Martinez also told reporters that this was why he didn’t talk politics.

“Everybody has a right to stand by what they believe in and that’s what makes us American,” he said. “We’re not all going to believe in the same things, but that’s what makes this country so great.”

Of course, the quote was not uttered by Hitler (not to mention that it should be “its citizens” not “it’s citizens”) but Martinez is perfectly right not to bow to pressure from left-wingers to grovel at their feet.

Even if Hitler didn’t utter that quote, he did act that way when he took over full control in pre-WWII Germany. Hitler did work to disarm the German people, especially the country’s Jewish citizens. And Hitler isn’t alone. All dictators do their level best to disarm their citizens before they begin putting their horrid policies into action. It is an inarguable lesson of history.
