Sasse on ‘Disastrous’ Steel Tariffs: ‘This Is Leftist Economic Policy’

With everything happening in politics right now regarding gun control and tariffs and basically everything Trump, I think many of us are in a state of perpetual, wide-eyed wonder.

I want to believe that Trump is making some major 4D chess moves that we simply don’t see yet. However, part of me fights the urge to grab his face and ask, “WHAT ARE YOU DOING?”

We do need to step back and realize that President Trump is working hard to bring jobs back to America and working to benefit Americans. Are we just being hyped up by officials and media in order to create chaos? Is this less “scary” than we are being led to believe?

President Trump’s surprise plan to impose tariffs on aluminum and steel imports was met with widespread derision from his own party, including from Sen. Ben Sasse (R-Neb.), who called the idea potentially disastrous for American consumers.

Despite a significant drop in the stock markets Thursday and Friday, Trump gave no indication that he would back off the plan for a 25 percent tariff for steel imports and 10 percent tariff for aluminum imports.

The Senator claims that this is a “leftist economic policy,” and that is won’t work.

“If you own a steel mill, today was great for you. If you consume steel – and every American family bought something at the store tonight with metals in it – today’s a bad day for you,” Sasse said, “This is leftist economic policy and we’ve tried it a whole bunch of times over the last two centuries and every time, American families have suffered.”
