Sanders: ‘Wolff Made Up Stories to Sell Books’

White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders blasted Michael Wolff, author of “Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House.” She said that he made up stories to try to sell books, and that even journalists who are critical of Trump claim that Wolff makes them all look bad.

Author Michael Wolff’s tell-all was released today after being originally planned for release next week. President Trump took to Twitter to blast Wolff and assert that he never authorized access.

Trump tweeted about the situation on Thursday, “I authorized Zero access to White House (actually turned him down many times) for author of phony book! I never spoke to him for book. Full of lies, misrepresentations and sources that don’t exist. Look at this guy’s past and watch what happens to him and Sloppy Steve!”

Then on Friday morning, Wolff claimed on NBC, “I absolutely spoke to the president. Whether he realized it was an interview or not, I don’t know. But it certainly wasn’t off the record.”

This sounds like a run around answer if you ask me.

Sanders said there was a “very short phone conversation” but there was no “interview about the book,” accusing Wolff of falsely making it seem as if he was outside the Oval Office every day.

Sanders said many people interviewed by Wolff believed they were speaking off the record, yet their comments showed up in the book and were often wrong.

“This is a guy who made up a lot of stories to try to sell books. I think more and more people are starting to see that his facts just simply don’t add up,” Sanders continued, “Reporters that are routinely incredibly critical of this president have said the journalistic practice of Michael Wolff gives everyone in journalism a bad name.”
