Ryan Seacrest Refuses to Pay Off Accuser

Despite the current moral panic, Ryan Seacrest denied allegations and refused to be blackmailed.

Ryan Seacrest, reportedly, could have prevented the allegations from ever being public. Or could he have? Now that the Harvey Weinstein case has been blown open, maybe he could never be sure that the payment his accuser wanted would not have been used at a later date to destroy his reputation.

This shift in expectations may mean we’re less likely to see hush money paid to accusers. There will be fewer false accusations and true victims will realize their best chance is to accuse the perpetrator immediately and sue in court.

In the meantime, the Ryan Seacrest “scandal” is being investigated. We’ll have to wait and see.

As more and more allegations of sexual harassment and other misconduct emerge in Hollywood, Ryan Seacrest today took the preemptive move of denying acting badly before an accusation went public.

“Recently, someone that worked as a wardrobe stylist for me nearly a decade ago at E! News, came forward with a complaint suggesting I behaved inappropriately toward her,” said the past and future American Idol host Friday. “If I made her feel anything but respected, I am truly sorry.”

As the story makes clear, however, Ryan Seacrest has pointedly insisted he did nothing unethical.

The anonymous accuser wanted a “substantial amount of money to keep quiet,” a source close to the situation tells Deadline.
