There’s a media buzz going around about an armed Russian jet, an Su-27, coming very close to a U.S. Navy aircraft – as close as 20 feet – and remaining that close for some five minutes before leaving.
Russian military officials are categorizing it as having “executed a ‘greeting’ maneuver.”
But then you find out that this ‘incident’ took place in the Black Sea. The U.S. Navy aircraft was “conducting routine operations in international airspace.”
According to Russian officials, “an air target approaching the Russian state border had been located.”

After it had been located, the Russians deployed a jet to investigate.
I don’t know if this is supposed to alarm us just because Russia has become the Democrats’ and many Republicans’ political scapegoat, or what. In reality, nothing that happened in the Black Sea was surprising. A foreign aircraft got too close to Russia’s border, so they investigated. Somehow, they’re trying to make Russia look ‘aggressive.’
If a foreign aircraft got too close to our border, I think we’d want to investigate as well. Would that be ‘aggressive’ of us?
An armed Russian fighter jet flew alarmingly close to a U.S. Navy reconnaissance aircraft flying in the Black Sea on Tuesday — just one day before Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov visited Washington.
The Russian jet came as close as 20 feet to the American aircraft and remained that close for five minutes, a U.S. defense official told Fox News.
The Russian jet was carrying six air-to-air missiles under its wings, making this episode “highly provocative,” one official told Fox News
It is very rare for a Russian jet to intercept a U.S. aircraft while visibly armed, officials said.
