Roseannless Roseanne, ‘The Conners’ An Expensive, Spectacular Failure About to Be Axed

The re-re-boot of ABC’s hit sitcom Roseanne, only without Roseanne Barr, has been an expensive and spectacular failure, according to the dismal ratings. The show’s prospects are so bad that ABC ordered only one more episode and will likely trash can the whole production after it airs.

The first episode of the newly re-named The Conners — which aired after ABC fired star Roseanne Barr for what it claimed was a “racist tweet” — earned so-so ratings pulling in a decent 10.46 million viewers.

Still that ten million is a far cry from the nearly 19 million from last year’s debut of Roseanne.

But the second episode of The Conners came up seriously short. Episode two fell a massive 26 percent in the ratings appealing to only 7.9 million viewers.

To put this in perspective this was 5 million or so lower than any episode of last year’s season of Roseanne.

But it gets worse for The Conners.

The third episode was no gem, either, garnering a 1.8 in the ratings and only 7.8 million viewers.

And the show is an expensive bomb, too.

According to Showbiz411:

Variety is reporting that John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, and Sara Gilbert are each being paid $375,000 an episode. Let’s say Lacy Goranson and Michael Fishman get $100,000 apiece, then there the kids and DJ’s ex wife. That’s a heavy load per week if the ratings keep falling. “The Conners’ has to be added to “Roseanne”‘s syndication package eventually– it will never reach 100 episodes and have its own package. So Werner TV is in trouble, with millions going out and not enough coming back. “The Conners” is doomed.

It also appears that ABC has ordered only one more episode meaning the show will get only a truncated one-season order if the axe falls after episode 11.
