Roseanne Earns Phone Call with Personal Praise from President Trump

The liberal mainstream media took an enormous hit this week with the return of seminal sitcom Roseanne, starring the titular Ms. Barr and acclaimed actor John Goodman.

The two are reprising their roles as Dan and Roseanne Conner – a middle class American couple who are exploring the world through their own brand of ultra dry sarcasm and witty retorts.  The show, which is a reboot of Barr’s original 1988 – 1997 run, also holds a distinction that seems bizarre in today’s modern television landscape:  The main character is an avowed conservative.

With the new season’s premiere this week, Americans made a statement in their approval of this new frontier in sitcom television, creating a ratings bonanza for the oft-liberal ABC network.

Roseanne made a triumphant return Tuesday night, blowing past projections with a 5.2 adults 18-49 rating and 18.2 million total viewers for the debut of its revival, which drew 10% more viewers than the original series finale 21 years ago.

While nostalgia was expected to bring in eyeballs, no one predicted such a huge turnout on premiere night for the blue-collar family sitcom with a Donald Trump-supporting protagonist, especially among the younger demographic. But then, few predicted that Trump would become the Republican nominee and would win the presidential election when he first announced his candidacy.

Now, as the nation continues to come to grips with what this means for the liberal media landscape, the President himself has reached out to Barr in order to congratulate her – an experience that Barr says that she’ll never forget.

In an appearance via phone on Thursday’s episode of Good Morning America, Barr recalled her conversation with President Trump and revealed their years-long friendship.

“It was pretty exciting, I’ll tell you that much,” Barr said about the call. “They said ‘Hold please for the President of the United States of America,’ and that was about the most exciting thing ever, and it was very sweet of him to congratulate us.”

“Well, you know, we just kinda had a private conversation, but we talked about a lot of things, and he’s just happy for me,” the 65-year-old Trump supporter explained. “I’ve known him for many years and he’s done a lot of nice things for me over the years and so it was just a friendly conversation about working and television and ratings … Oh yeah, he really understands ratings and how they measure things, and that’s kind of been an interest of mine too for a long time.”

Could Roseanne‘s conservative lean be a sign of things to come for Hollywood and pop culture in general?  Or has Roseanne Barr simply struck a nerve with the nation’s already fervent Trump supporters?

This unabashed support for the President almost makes up for Barr’s purposefully terrible rendition of the Star Spangled Banner from 1990.
