Ridiculous: George Washington Church to Remove Plaque of Former President

The church that George Washington attended have made an executive decision to remove a plaque hanging that honors our first president. The church leaders at Christ Church in Alexandria, Virginia feel that it offends some people, and that it is not acceptable for all worshipers.

They said, “The plaques in our sanctuary make some in our presence feel unsafe or unwelcome.” Their reasoning for this is because Washington was a slaveholder. However, so were many people in our country’s history. At that time in history, people here were sold slaves. While it was not right, it was “normal” at that time. Washington likely did not think that he was doing anything out of the ordinary.

The leaders continued, “Some visitors and guests who worship with us choose not to return because they receive an unintended message from the prominent presence of the plaques,” they said, “Many in our congregation feel a strong need for the church to stand clearly on the side of ‘all are welcome- no exceptions.”

President Trump expressed concern that the censoring of Confederate generals would lead to dishonoring Thomas Jefferson and George Washington as well.
