Rep. John Lewis: ‘I Don’t See This President-elect as a Legitimate President’ [VIDEO]

Rep. John Lewis (D-GA) said that while he “believes in forgiveness,” Trump’s victory is just a little too far for him to accept. He said that going forward, “it’s going to be hard,” and “it’s going to be very difficult,” because “I don’t see this President-elect as a legitimate president.”

He made these comments in an interview on Meet the Press with NBC’s Chuck Todd. Todd had asked him if he planned to try to forge a relationship with Donald Trump.

When Todd asked the Georgia Representative why he didn’t consider Trump a legitimate president, here’s how he answered:

“I think the Russians participated in helping this man get elected. And they helped destroy the candidacy of Hillary Clinton. I don’t plan to attend the inauguration. It will be the first one that I miss since I’ve been in Congress. You cannot be at home with something that you feel is wrong.”

Todd warned that his comments were “going to send a big message to a lot of people in this country, that you don’t believe he’s a legitimate president.”

“I think there was a conspiracy on the part of the Russians and others to help him get elected,” Lewis responded. “That’s not right. That’s not fair. That’s not the open democratic process.”
