People Complain of ‘Censorship’ After Local YMCA Bans CNN From Workout Room

A Valparaiso, Indiana YMCA gym has decided to stop broadcasting CNN in their workout rooms.

For years, CNN was the network of choice at this particular gym, but perhaps coincidentally after Donald Trump famously accused the network of being fake news, they decided to switch exclusively to local news coverage. They issued this statement:

“In order to eliminate perceived political bias associated with national news outlets, the Valparaiso Family YMCA will only be showing local news channels in the future.”

A CBS affiliate reported that at least one patron is upset by this, accusing the gym of “censorship.”

“To me, it’s blatant censorship that I find very surprising,” said Greg Quartucci. He’s been a YMCA member for over ten years. And apparently, he really liked watching CNN while he worked out.

“The timing of this was very peculiar because I think it was basically a day or two after Mr. Trump claimed that CNN was fake news,” he said. “I think they switched to the cooking channel.”

Quartucci added that the Y has given in to a minority and is guilty of “blatant censorship.”

“It is a Christian organization,” he said. “It’s all about freedom and opportunity, and what they’re doing, I personally think is against what they have on their walls and against what they have as their mission.”

They’re a privately run organization who decided to turn CNN off. As a private business, they are free to do so. They don’t have to offer any TV at all.

They had CNN all this time. Does that mean they’ve been “censoring” Fox News?

If Quartucci is that offended that he can’t watch CNN while he rides a stationary bike, then he should cancel his membership and go to Anytime Fitness.
