Muslims Really Hate Dogs – If You have one in Public You Could get 74 Lashes!

We’ve talked about Islam’s irrational hatred of dogs before, but this is taking things to a whole new level. In Iran, lawmakers are trying to pass a new bill through their legislature that would punish anyone who buys, sells or walks a dog in public. The punishments afforded under the new bill range from paying a fine to receiving 74 lashes.

The bill is being pushed by a coalition of 32 members of parliament as an amendment to the penal code. The bill has been translated by the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) and in part reads:

Muslim DogPart of the bill reads: “Anyone who takes a pet like a monkey or a dog in public and damages the Islamic culture or the health and tranquility of the people – particularly children and women, or attempts to buy or sell them, or keep them at their house, and not to act on the warnings issued by State Security Forces (police), would be fined between 10 to 100 million rials or would receive 74 lashes, plus the pet would be confiscated.”

Based on the bill, the pet would be “transferred to a zoo or desert” and the owner is responsible for the full cost of the transfer and keeping of the pet.

The NCRI says that Iran’s aversion to dogs actually has more to do with their attempts to crack down on women and the youth of their nation. The laws about pets make it easier for religious police to apply pressure to women and youth that they believe are acting inappropriately in the Islamic nation.

Using this pretext, the police stop cars, carry out searches, confiscate pets and fine women if they are considered improperly dress.

The sporadic and politically motivated campaigns against dog ownership are aimed at further suppressing the youth and women in Iran who have, in past few weeks, held protests against the acid attacks on women that have been carried out by state-sponsored gangs.

Whatever the purpose for the Draconian laws and punishments – it’s probably best for you dog lovers to keep your distance from the crazy nation of Iran.
