Various news outlets are now reporting that Representative Michele Bachmann (R-MN) has been given a security detail by the Capitol Police. The detail was added to protect Rep. Bachmann after an ISIS video surfaced that gave the government reason to believe that a credible threat to her life exists.
Federal law enforcement officials are taking an ISIL threat against Michele Bachmann so seriously that Capitol Police have given the Minnesota Republican her own security detail.
An online threat against Bachmann emerged recently, according to multiple law enforcement officials familiar with the situation. Last week, Bachmann was provided a security detail in response, according to the sources.
Politico points out that Rep. Bachmann has been one of the most outspoken proponents of the war on terror and has spoken at length about the threat of Islamic terrorism. However Politico also mentions that Bachmann has spoken out against the danger of Islam in a more general manner as well.
Bachmann bemoaned “the rise of radical Islamic jihad — though that’s redundant,” she said, conflating all forms of Islam with its most radical elements, much like Oklahoma state senator Mike Bennett did last week.
She claimed that Muslims are engaged in “spiritual warfare, and that what we must do is defeat Islamic jihad. Sadly, our president has the wrong prescription. He even fails to acknowledge their motivations for bringing out jihad.”
“Yes, Mr. President, it is about Islam!” she said as the audience applauded wildly.
“And I believe if you have an evil of an order of this magnitude, you take it seriously. You declare war on it, you don’t dance around it. Just like the Islamic State has declared war on the United States of America.”
“You kill their leader,” she continued, “you kill their councils, you kill their army until they wave the white flag of surrender. That’s how you win a war!”
“We’re going to have to answer to the next generation — why we failed to defeat the totalitarian evil of our day.”
Here are her full remarks from the Values Voter Summit.
Of course Michele Bachmann has been threatened – she’s taken a hard stand against ISIS and their supporters. Does anyone think that if Bachmann were President ISIS would still be a problem? I think not…
