Michelle Obama Uses University Commencement Speech to Attack Mississippi

A “class act” she is not.

Michelle Obama proved just how vindictive and rude liberal Democrats can be when she used an occasion for celebration as an opportunity to belittle and bemoan the great state of Mississippi.

Obama was the invited guest of Jackson State University in Jackson, Mississippi this past weekend. She was asked by JSU to deliver a commencement speech to the graduating class of 2016. Instead, the First Lady chose to act as cravenly as possible, decrying the fact that the people of Mississippi were more conservative than her fellow liberals in Washington, D.C. and Chicago.

Obama’s point of contention was the recently passed “religious freedom” bill which would protect conscientious people of faith from being forced to participate in actions they deem immoral. No, Mrs. Obama did not like that at all. She would prefer that people everywhere be forced to conform to her morality, and those who choose not, to face punishment by means of government fines… or worse.

Here’s what Mrs. Obama had to say:

“We see it right here in Mississippi — just two weeks ago -– how swiftly progress can hurtle backward. How easy it is to single out a small group and marginalize them because of who they are or who they love.

So we’ve got to stand side by side with all our neighbors –- straight, gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender; Muslim, Jew, Christian, Hindu immigrant, Native American — because the march for civil rights isn’t just about African Americans, it’s about all Americans. It’s about making things more just, more equal, more free for all our kids and grandkids. That’s the story you all have the opportunity to write. That’s what this historic university has prepared you to do.”

Religious-Freedom-Restoration-ActThe only problem here is that Mrs. Obama has failed to mention that the religious freedom bill does nothing to hinder the rights of anyone; it only protects the rights of conservatives of faith to practice their religion as they see fit.

Oh, but it wasn’t just conservative people of faith that Michelle Obama wanted to denigrate. No, she also took aim at every conservative or Republican who has ever disagreed with her husband. Because isn’t that what college commencement speeches are all about? Talking politics and mocking conservatives?

“We pay endless attention to folks who are blocking action, blocking judges, blocking immigration, blocking a raise in the minimum wage. Just blocking. We are consumed with the anger and vitriol that are bubbling up, with folks shouting at each other, using hateful and divisive language.

And then there’s the countless times when that language gets personal and is directed at my husband –- charges that he doesn’t love our country. The time he was called a liar in front of a joint session of Congress. The nonstop questions about his birth certificate and his belief in God.”

This is a perfect encapsulation of what conservative despise so much about the modern left. The entire time we debate, they demagogue and avoid the real issues. For all their bluster about “coexisting” and having open and honest communication, all the Democrats ever seem to actually do is mock, deride, and berate. We’re tired of all of the condescending nonsense that flows from liberal founts in their disgusting high places. We don’t need them, or their government, telling us how then we ought to live.

Michelle Obama perfectly illustrates what is so disgusting about today’s liberal elite. It’s the smug, hateful way the speak down to us. The condescending tones. The ugly generalizations.

Well, we have grown tired of it.

We are not yours to rule.

We can believe what we wish, we can act as we wish, we can live as we wish, so long as we are not hurting others. At least, we used to be able to do this in the America that valued liberty and personal responsibility… but I guess that’s the America Michelle Obama is working so hard to kill, isn’t it?
