In a disgusting, early example of how the media will side against cultural conservatives and with the Obama administration, the Charlotte Observer is showcasing some amazing ignorance in the battle over gendered bathrooms.
Charlotte, North Carolina is the epicenter for the latest round of fighting over just how amoral/immoral our culture will become, so it makes sense that the liberal media in the Tar Heel state would weigh in. What doesn’t make sense is the supercilious argument that they are using to defend President Obama and Charlotte’s liberals against the vast majority of Americans who want to keep the bathrooms gendered.
The Observer’s argument basically boils down to this… “Sure, it will be uncomfortable for girls to see men’s private parts. But they need to get over it!”
“This is what the Obama administration nudged the rest of the country toward Friday,” the editorial said. “Yes, the thought of male genitalia in girls’ locker rooms — and vice versa — might be distressing to some. But the battle for equality has always been in part about overcoming discomfort — with blacks sharing facilities, with gays sharing marriage — then realizing it was not nearly so awful as some people imagined.”
While admitting that exposure to male genitalia is a possible outcome of transgender bathroom laws, the editorial said the notion that such laws constitute a threat to the privacy and safety of women and children is a “political fiction” pushed by Republicans.
“Those safety issues are political fiction — non-transgender men wouldn’t have been allowed in women’s bathrooms under the Charlotte ordinance that HB 2 killed, and the 200 or so cities with similar ordinances have had no incidents involving bathroom predators,” the editorial said.
It’s pure, unadulterated foolishness. The Charlotte Observer attempts to do what so many liberals have done connecting the Civil Rights movement with transgender bathroom use – but the comparisons are simply ridiculous. African-Americans were being openly discriminated against, having their God-given rights abrogated, and being brutally abused by both the government and their fellow citizens. Transgendered Americans today have the same access to bathroom facilities, voting, redress of grievances, and so on, that every other American enjoys.
Let me be perfectly clear – there is NO COMPARISON between the Civil Rights movement and the LGBT Agenda today. NONE. And the Charlotte Observer should be condemned and derided for attempting to fabricate one with an argument as stupid as this.
