Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) had his name invoked during Saturday night’s Democrat presidential debate in Iowa. During a segment of the debate that focused on foreign policy, particularly the war on terror, the moderator quoted Rubio as saying that we were in the midst of a war against radical Islam. The moderator then asked the Democrat candidates if they agreed with Rubio’s assessment… they did not.
Hillary Clinton: “I don’t think we’re at war with Islam. I don’t think we’re at war with all Muslims. I think we’re at war with jihadists. We are at war with violent extremism. We are at war with people who use their religion for purposes of power and oppression, and yes, we are at war with those people, but I don’t want us to be painting with too broad a brush.”
Rubio appeared as a guest on ABC’s This Week with George Stephanopoulos and the first question to the GOP candidate for President wondered what his response to Mrs. Clinton’s statement was.
Rubio responded by reiterating that we are indeed at war against radical Islam.
“I don’t understand it. That would be like saying we weren’t at war with Nazis, because we were afraid to offend some Germans who may have been members of the Nazi Party but weren’t violent themselves.
We are at war with radical Islam, with an interpretation of Islam by a significant number of people around the world, who they believe now justifies them in killing those who don’t agree with their ideology.
This is a clash of civilizations. As I said at the debate earlier this week, there is no middle ground on this, either they win or we win. And we need to begin to take this seriously. These are individuals motivated by their faith.
Of course all Muslims are not members of violent jihadist groups, but there is a global jihadist movement in the world, motivated by their interpretation of Islam, in this case Sunni Islam, in the case of ISIS, and it needs to be confronted for what it is. This is not a geopolitical movement. It’s a religiously oriented movement.”
He’s not wrong. We are at War with Radical Islam. The sooner the Democrat Party realizes this, the sooner we can mount a real defense against the evil villains perpetrating these terrible and violent acts.
