Liberal Media Attacking Ted Cruz for Using Obamacare

Presidential candidate and Senator, Ted Cruz (R-TX) has come under fire in recent days for his announcement that he and his family would be using the Healthcare Marketplace to sign up for healthcare now that his wife was taking an unpaid leave of absence from her job. Ostensibly, this means that Cruz will be signing his family up for healthcare coverage through Obamacare, which has led many liberals to attack him for some perceived notion of hypocrisy. However, as Cruz explained to CBN’s David Brody, he’s just doing what the law of the land instructs him to.

Cruz notes an interesting example to explain why signing up for Obamacare doesn’t mean he is “compromising his principles.” He reminds viewers that he is for a flat tax and abolishing the IRS… but that it doesn’t mean that he plans to not pay his taxes. He will pay his taxes just like everyone else, because it is the law of the land. In the same way, he is signing up for Obamacare because he believes that Congress should be forced to live by the laws that they pass. Even when they don’t want to.

David Brody: The media is blowing this up you know. You know the deal. ‘Oh, now he’s going to take a government subsidy.’ Do you want to clear this up for us because there are a lot of folks that are saying he’s against it but he’s taking it anyhow?

Ted Cruz: You know, the mainstream media loves to play gotcha games. When I announced the campaign, my wife also decided to take an unpaid leave of absence from her job. We have been for the past couple of years covered on my wife’s health insurance. When she took an unpaid leave of absence it means she also is losing her medical insurance. And so we’re going to do what anyone else would do, which is take their health insurance from their employer. So in all likelihood, we’ll going on the exchange.

And so suddenly, all the media says, ‘Hahaha, gotchu, because Cruz is now signing up for Obamacare.’

Listen, I have zero intention of taking any government subsidy or Obama subsidy. Rather what I am going to do is pay in the marketplace for health insurance for my family just like most Americans.
