Liberal Group Warns Voters: If Republicans Win Senate they Might Act like Democrats!

Last week our own Julie Love introduced you to the video series that had developed in their efforts to fight against the possibility of a GOP Senate takeover. On Sunday, MoveOn published a new video in the series, wherein their host, the brilliant (but liberal) Robert Reich discusses yet another reason to be scared of the GOP.

The video is titled, The little-known tool Republicans will use if they take the Senate. While informative the video is also an Ode to Hypocrisy on the part of (Not that liberals being HUGE hypocrites should surprise anyone…)

Oh the Irony/hypocrisy/fearmongering…

The video uncovers the dangers of a political maneuver called “reconciliation.” Using reconciliation, the majority party can with a simple majority vote bypass the traditional hurdles that the minority party puts in place. It is generally considered an underhanded tactic and most Senators would never openly approve of using that tactic…

Reconciliation is exactly the tactic Democrats chose to use to RAM through the Obamacare legislation about five years ago.

From CBS News:

Obamacare-this-is-going-to-hurtNow that health care reform is moving to the floor of the Senate, Democratic leaders are parsing over the details of the bill, devising ways secure 60 votes for reform — starting today, however, they do not necessarily have to.

This past summer, the Senate wrote into its budget rules that beginning Oct. 15, they could use a procedural maneuver called “reconciliation” to pass health care reform, which would allow the bill to pass with 51 votes instead of the 60 needed to overcome a filibuster. A committee in the House of Representatives today quietly took the precautions necessary to allow the Senate to proceed with reconciliation, if it comes to that…

…Using reconciliation will remain an option until Democrats can get 60 members to cooperate — and the party wants to pass a health care bill this year. Liberal advocates for reform say getting all 60 Democrats to cooperate should not be difficult, even to pass a bill with the much-debated public option, since they do not even technically need to vote for the bill — they simply need to agree to not stand in the way.

Policy-wise, the reconciliation process is simply not intended for comprehensive pieces of legislation like health care reform…

Allahpundit over at HotAir may have put it best:

Turns out history for the left didn’t begin on January 20, 2009 but rather in April 2010 or thereabouts. In fact, the ObamaCare omission here is so egregious, it reminds me in an odd way of those creepy liberal revisionist histories in which JFK somehow ends up dead at the hands of the right-wing city of Dallas while his left-wing assassin is conveniently airbrushed into oblivion. They used reconciliation to pass what’s arguably the most momentous piece of domestic policy of the past 50 years, and now, the instant Republicans use it for anything, the tactic will be deemed de facto cheating — despite endless leftist screeching since 2009 that we should probably go ahead and jettison the archaic 60-vote threshold for cloture entirely. You keep smiling, guys.

Reconciliation is scary… we know. But the liberals have no right to preach about how scary it is after beating Americans over the head with it to pass Obamacare. This ad is educational but it’s also the height of hypocrisy.
