Leo DiCaprio: Global Warming Presents the Nation’s ‘Biggest Economic Opportunity’

While it seems as if DiCaprio has packaged the idea of global warming in ‘jobs and economy’ talk simply to make global warming more readily accepted by President-elect Trump, global warming alarmists have made statements like this before. They talk about creating jobs, business opportunities, “marketing trends,” subsidies and grants.

Reuters reported:

Tackling climate change is the “biggest economic opportunity” in the history of the United States, no matter who holds political office, said Hollywood star and environmental activist Leonardo DiCaprio.

“There are a few, very prominent people that still deny the overwhelming conclusions of the world’s scientists that climate change is largely human-caused and needs immediate urgent attention,” he told a U.N. awards ceremony on Friday evening.

But “the truth” about climate change has spread like “wildfire,” he added.

DiCaprio’s comments, as he received a prize for his work as a global citizen, did not refer to U.S. President-elect Donald Trump by name but were a thinly-veiled reference to his views and climate-skeptic cabinet members with oil industry ties.

Always follow the money. Think of all the failed green industry startups that went bankrupt even after billions of dollars of subsidies and grants were given to them. Those were jobs that Obama “created.” He’s been trying to divest the nation from the oil industry and shift our focus to the green industry. The administration has been throwing money at anything that’s green hoping that eventually something will stick, and then everyone at the top can start making substantial returns on their investment.

That’s really what the idea of manmade global warming is all about. It’s been not much more than a carefully crafted marketing campaign. They’ve taken a little bit of science (not too much…otherwise it all falls apart) and a lot of politics and bundled it into a giant commercial, hoping to get everyone sold on the idea.

This was the nature of Leonardo DiCaprio’s visit to Trump Tower earlier this month. Being the climate change warrior that he is, he probably talked about the catastrophic consequences of SUVs and all that, but he would have put it in the context of a great “economic opportunity.” And since Trump is all about jobs and the economy, he should warm up to these “opportunities.”

DiCaprio tried to sell the idea of catastrophic global warming to Trump by saying he could create millions of jobs through “infrastructure” and the green industry, according to a statement by the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation’s CEO Terry Tamminen:

“We presented the President-elect and his advisors with a framework … that details how to unleash a major economic revival across the United States that is centered on investments in sustainable infrastructure. Our conversation focused on how to create millions of secure, American jobs in the construction and operation of commercial and residential clean, renewable energy generation.”

I have absolutely no problem with the idea of green energy. The problem is when the government steps in and starts deciding which businesses are okay to stay and which have to leave or go bankrupt. If there’s a solar or wind energy company that can truly generate power – without government grants or the use of subsidies – that is cheaper, and more efficient than fossil fuels, then the market would naturally gravitate toward that company, and the oil industry would have to phase out.

But that hasn’t quite happened yet. In fact, if they were to let the market decide, people might prefer nuclear energy over everything else.
