With Hurricane Matthew making its way up the east coast, predictable calls from the left to “do something” about climate change come with it.
Even though we’ve been in what climate scientists call a “hurricane drought” – because of the dearth of major hurricanes making landfall in the U.S. over the past decade – when one finally might make landfall, manmade global warming proponents are quick to blame the weather event on Republicans who burn fossil fuels.
Now, people who believe in manmade climate change may drive around in gas-guzzling SUVs – like Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton – or fly around in their private jets – like Leo DiCaprio and Al Gore – and burn way more fossil fuels and create way more carbon emissions than all the conservatives in America put together, but they’re allowed to do it, because it’s for a good cause.
When Hurricane Hermine – a category 1 when it made landfall – hit Florida, Hillary Clinton was quick to tie it to manmade climate change:
“Another threat to our country is climate change. 2015 was the hottest year on record and the science is clear: it’s real, it’s wreaking havoc on communities across America. Last week’s hurricane was another reminder of the devastation that extreme weather can cause and I send my thoughts and prayers to everyone affected by Hermine.
“But, this is not the last one that’s going to hit Florida given what’s happening in the climate. […] If it affects people who lose their homes or their businesses that took a lifetime to build, it doesn’t matter to him. When it comes to protecting our country against natural disasters and the threat of climate change, once again, Donald Trump is totally unfit and unqualified to be our President.”
US Atmospheric scientist Philip Klotzbach tweeted out a chart showing a decline in global accumulated cyclone energy over the years:
But somehow, we’re supposed to believe that not only there has been an increase in major hurricanes, but also that we’re to blame for them. And the only way to fix it is to give more money to the green industry and bankrupt the oil industry in the process.
