Guess Who Else Met With the Russian Ambassador?

I think it’s safe to say that the Democrats have overstepped themselves with their silly allegations regarding Jeff Sessions and the Russians. You don’t have to be a Trump supporter or a Sessions supporter to see the absurdity.

I have my own concerns about Jeff Sessions, mostly pertaining to his opinions on states’ rights and drug laws. The ‘war on drugs’ cannot be won by continuing what our government has been doing over the past few decades. Most drug laws do more harm than good. The decision to allow or prohibit drugs – especially plants like marijuana – is best left up to the states with no interference from the feds.

If Democrats had those kinds of concerns, that’s one thing. But using this whole Russia thing was a bad political move.

Almost immediately, reports started surfacing that Democrats – even some who had leveled accusations against the new Attorney General – had themselves met with the Russians, after they had denied doing so.

Now, I don’t know that these Democrats were necessarily lying about their past meetings with Russian ambassadors. In all likelihood, they forgot. They meet with people all the time from the U.S. and abroad. I wouldn’t expect them to remember every single encounter they ever had.

But that’s what makes Jeff Sessions’s case all the more understandable. It was clear to me that when Sessions answered Al Franken’s question about whether he had met with the Russians as a surrogate of the Trump campaign, that Sessions responded specifically to Franken’s question – that is, he answered based on the premise that Sessions was acting as an advisor on the Trump campaign. In that capacity, he hadn’t met with the Russian ambassador. Sessions could have volunteered some helpful information about how he had met with the Russian ambassador in his capacity as a senator, but he didn’t.

But see, even if he meant that he had never met with the Russian ambassador at all, it would be understandable if he had simply forgotten. This is evidenced by the Democrats who have not only accused Sessions of lying under oath about meeting with Russian officials, but who have also met with the Russians themselves, after denying such meetings.

Claire McCaskill was the first of such to be outed. Others have been exposed as well. The latest is of Nancy Pelosi. On Friday, she said that she has never met with the Russian ambassador. This is significant, because she’s helping to lead the charge against Sessions and pressuring him to resign. Politico reported:

But a file photo from Pelosi’s 2010 meeting with Russian President Dmitriy Medvedev shows Kislyak at the table across from russian ambassador nancy pelosiPelosi — then House speaker — and Rep. Steny Hoyer (D-Md.). Medvedev had been in the country for a meeting with President Barack Obama a day earlier and stopped in on Capitol Hill to meet with congressional leaders as well.

Asked to square Pelosi’s comments with the photo of the meeting, a spokesman said Pelosi simply meant she never had a solo meeting with Kislyak.

“Of course, that’s what she meant,” said the spokesman, Drew Hammill. “She has never had a private one-on-one with him.”

After Trump needled Pelosi on Twitter about the matter, Pelosi hit back with her own tweet and another statement from her spokesman.

“Leader Pelosi’s answer to the question today was clearly about private, one-on-one meetings, which she has never had with Ambassador Kislyak,” Hammill said. “The Ambassador was incidental to the 2010 meeting between then-Russian President Medvedev and then-Speaker Pelosi. Clearly, one needs to remind Politico that Attorney General Sessions lied under oath about a secret meeting amidst Russia’s hacking of our election, which he also didn’t disclose in a written questionnaire.”

The fact that it wasn’t a ‘one-on-one’ meeting is irrelevant. If Sessions’s meeting with the Russian ambassador had also not been a one-on-one meeting, would Democrats have let it go? Of course not.

Besides, Pelosi either lied or she forgot. The question she was asked didn’t specify whether or not she had a one-on-one meeting. It was a general question, asking if she had ever met with the Russian ambassador. “Not with this Russian ambassador, no,” she answered.

She – like Sessions – didn’t volunteer any clarifications.

This just goes to show how silly the Russian connection thing is. If Russia really is this villain that Democrats are saying it is, you’d think they’d remember every meeting they ever had with them.

It’s all manufactured. They could have used China. Or Saudi Arabia. Or Sudan. The entire narrative is built on ‘leaked information’ given to liberal media outlets by ‘anonymous sources’ allegedly inside the ‘intelligence community.’ No evidence has been presented. Just ideas that might as well have been composed by a dime store thriller novelist.
