Gruesome Crime and Heartless Onlookers Caught on Camera

I’m not sure why I continue to let the depravity of humanity surprise me… but I do.

Over the weekend in New York City something happened that has surprised and unnerved in the most hardened city dweller.

Video was released by the NYPD showing a group of men in a convenience store when an argument breaks out and one man pulls out his gun.

The gunslinger then proceeds to fired five shots into his victim, all while holding a beer.

The violent attack is disgusting enough all by itself, especially when you consider why it happened. Here’s what the convenience store clerk overheard.

Around 30 people were filming a low-budget video on Webster Ave. near E. 170 St. around 1:15 a.m. when two of the men began quarreling, said Ali Abdul, 41, who owns a deli on the block.

The fight then spilled into Abdul’s business.

“They were fighting over who’s the star, who’s better,” said Abdul. “They were drunk. They spit at each other, then one guy pulled out a gun and shot the other guy five times.”

shooterSo, crisis negotiators these guys are not.

To make matters worse, the shooter even pistol whips (hits the person with the butt of his gun) his friend several times before leaving him lying in a bloody pool on the store floor.

At this point, I think we can all agree that humanity has few redeeming qualities with people like this floating in the gene pool. Amiright?

Well, the other folks in the store don’t do anything to change our impression of humanity. Remember, there were some 30 people filming this little video with these guys… and as far as we can tell from the video, half of them just step over the victim on their way out the door.

Is this really what we’ve come to?

Where we see a man clinging to life, riddled with bullet holes, bleeding and in pain laying on a dirty floor… and we just walk around him? No one rushes to his side to help? No one falls down to take his hand and console him? Does anyone even call 9-1-1?

I don’t think that this video is emblematic of society as a whole… but I do think this is becoming much more common and much less surprising today than in times past.
