FBI Got Warrant Last Summer to Spy on Trump Aide Carter Page

According to federal investigators, a Foreign Intelligence Surveillance (FISA) Court granted authorities a warrant last summer to keep tabs on former Trump aide Carter Page. Page was one of three former Trump associates who are all too willing to come forward and testify in the ongoing investigation into whether the Trump campaign colluded with Russia to win the 2016 presidential election.

The Washington Post reported:

The FBI obtained a secret court order last summer to monitor the communications of an adviser to presidential candidate Donald Trump, part of an investigation into possible links between Russia and the campaign, law enforcement and other U.S. officials said.

The FBI and the Justice Department obtained the warrant targeting Carter Page’s communications after convincing a Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court judge that there was probable cause to believe Page was acting as an agent of a foreign power, in this case Russia, according to the officials.

This is the clearest evidence so far that the FBI had reason to believe during the 2016 presidential campaign that a Trump campaign adviser was in touch with Russian agents. Such contacts are now at the center of an investigation into whether the campaign coordinated with the Russian government to swing the election in Trump’s favor.

This is the ‘clearest evidence so far’ that ‘a Trump campaign adviser was in touch with Russian agents.’ Surely, this isn’t the only time or the only campaign which had aides in contact with other countries. Just because someone in a political campaign knows someone in a foreign country doesn’t mean there must be ‘collusion’ going on.

We all know that John Podesta and his brother Tony had close ties to Russia. Did the feds also seek FISA warrants to spy on them as well to see if there might be ‘collusion’ between the two?

Critics will say that obviously it was something concerning, because the FISA court granted them a warrant. Everything was done legally, and if there wasn’t probable cause, the court wouldn’t have given them a warrant.

But what if it was politicized from the beginning? The FISA warrant was issued in July around the time Trump had clinched the nomination by accruing the required number of delegates. (Was that also because of Russian ‘collusion?’)

That far back before the election, I’m sure most people were still assuming that Hillary would win. So, why bother trying to gin up conspiracy theorists? Maybe they didn’t intend to use the intel until they needed to. If Hillary had won, there would have been no use in publicizing it. But after he won the election, they decided to pull out what they had in their ‘dossier’ of Trump and his associates. And of course, the surveillance ramped up between the election and the inauguration.
