The creator of Spiderman has died. Stan Lee, the man who made comic books a billion-dollar business, has died at 95.

According to celebrity gossip site TMZ, an ambulance was sent to Lee’s Hollywood home early on Monday morning and took the comic book king to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center where he passed away.

Lee, of course, had a variety of illnesses at the end of his life, not to mention questions over his mental state at times.

But there is no mistaking his impact on America, Lee started Marcel Comics with his close pal Jack Kirby in 1961 and quickly built the publishing company into one of the most well-known superhero publishers in the business. Even through the 1970s when comics started falling on hard times, Lee was able to keep Marvel titles relevant and lucrative.

From the beginning in 1961, Lee went on to create the Fantastic Four, Spider-Man, Black Panther, The Incredible Hulk, X-Men, Iron Man and The Avengers and others.

Then, when movie special effects finally caught up to the fantastic plots and capabilities of his comic book heroes, Hollywood came calling shooting Marvel Comics into the stratosphere with a whole new area of business that has totally engulfed LaLa Land and the TV industry.

For his part, Lee has spent the last 25 years indulging himself with a cameo appearance in nearly every Marvel Comic character movie put out between 1989 and 2018.

Some of these are hilarious. Take a look:

Lee’s wife of 69 years, Joan, died in 2017. He is survived by his daughter, J.C.

J.C. told TMZ, “My father loved all of his fans. He was the greatest, most decent man.”
