Donald Trump Fulfills Promises and Media Pretends This Is a Problem

Obviously, Trump fulfills promises by executive order because of bipartisan opposition and Barack Obama’s reliance on such orders.

Why does the fact that Donald Trump fulfills promises make the media portray him as unhinged? Because that is the best story they can come up with to make their hostility to the President appear as factual reporting. Trump was elected to undo the damage done by Barack Obama. Because Trump has hostile Republicans and Democrats in Congress, he doesn’t have many options except executive orders. Happily, most of Barack Obama’s legacy depends on his executive orders; so Trump can accomplish a significant amount of work by the same method, undoing that legacy.

So, the AFP reports, “Trump and the dismantling of Obama’s legacy.

Brick by brick, the demolition job has begun: since taking office less than a year ago, Donald Trump has launched an all-out assault on the legacy of Barack Obama.

Climate, free trade, health care, immigration, foreign policy — the 45th US president has set about undoing just about everything done by the 44th.

All new presidents, of course, break with their predecessor once in the Oval Office, especially if they come from a rival political party.

But what is striking is how systematic the hammer blows to Obama’s legacy have been.

In other words, Presidents aren’t supposed to fight for what their voters want and keep their promises. Instead they are supposed to betray them when they get into office and protect the legacy of opposing politicians. This is the deep state, and self-perpetuating system that has been immune to the wishes of voters.

Even when the story AFP admits why Trump is using executive orders (because Obama used them), they find some useless “expert” to claim that it is all personal. He even projects the Democrats’ mindset towards Trump onto deplorables regarding Obama.

And his team recalls, with reason, that Obama acted by decree many times when thwarted by Congress. What has been decided by the stroke of a pen can be undone by the stroke of a pen.

Historian Jeffrey Engel, however, sees no equivalent in recent decades to Trump’s systematic application of the simple principle that “if the other guy liked it, it must be bad.”

To Engel, the explanation is that Trump’s electoral base “never accepted fully Barack Obama as their president.”

“There was a move among Obama’s opponents to delegitimize him and to say that this man is not really president and consequently anything that he did, Trump’s base is ready to get rid of,” said Engel, who heads Southern Methodist University’s center for presidential history in Dallas, Texas.
