Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez told The New York Times in a story published Wednesday that she needs to wait until her congressional salary kicks in to afford an apartment in D.C.
“I have three months without a salary before I’m a member of Congress. So, how do I get an apartment?”
This sounds like a lack of personal responsibility & accountability. As my Dad would say this sounds like a total lack of the six P’s that you need to succeed.
There are many little ways in which our electoral system isn’t even designed (nor prepared) for working-class people to lead.
This is one of them (don’t worry btw – we’re working it out!)

Rep.-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) told The New York Times in an interview Thursday that she will need to wait for her congressional salary to kick in before she can rent an apartment in D.C.
She explained that the transition period will be “very unusual, because I can’t really take a salary. I have three months without a salary before I’m a member of Congress. So, how do I get an apartment? Those little things are very real.”
Ocasio-Cortez also told the Times that she had saved money before leaving her job at a restaurant and had planned accordingly with her partner.
“We’re kind of just dealing with the logistics of it day by day, but I’ve really been just kind of squirreling away and then hoping that gets me to January,” she said. More
Twitter responds:
To tell me she is flat broke means she is either living above her own means already or lying.
She got paid for every. single. interview and magazine shoot. That’s how that stuff works.— Kent Clarke (@d_saggins) November 9, 2018
Ohhhhh but you can afford outfits with these price tags? pic.twitter.com/rf4Kg4BuW2

Weird. If you are “working class” shouldn’t you have an ability to float yourself for 3 months?

Facts. If you can’t budget 3 months of rent are you really prepared to budget a country?

I mean, how were you thinking to pay for your next month rent in NY?

You know Representatives live both in DC and in their home districts, right? And she left her job to run for Congress, therefore she’s in a period of unemployment. And she said she saved $$ in anticipation of this move. Good lord.

Pardon me, but what does our electoral system have to do with your preparedness to lead?

I can’t wait for you to get to Washington and learn how the real world of politics works and how thing like your apartment actually cost money and don’t appear out of thin air without any effort.
