While the rest of the Obama administration has been busy telling anyone who will listen that the Muslim terrorist attack in Orlando was not a terrorist attack at all but simply a hate crime perpetrated against the homosexual community, it seems that Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter has a different take on the matter. In a speech his past Monday at the Center for a New American Security’s national security conference, Carter admitted that the attack was a reminder of what we’re up against.
“It reminds that ISIL not only tyrannizes the population where it rose in Syria and Iraq, but it also wants to spread its evil ideology and to plot or inspire attacks on Americans, including here at home. And Orlando further steels our resolve to carry out all the aspects of our coalition military campaign plan.
First, destroying ISIL’s parent tumor in Iraq and Syria, which is necessary. Not sufficient, because second, we need to combat ISIL’s metastasis worldwide, wherever it appears, and third, help protect the homeland and our people…”
“Orlando is a reminder that all nations must do more to defeat ISIL. The sooner we deliver it a lasting defeat, the safer we’ll make our homelands and our people.”

It’s nice to see that at least one person in the Obama administration understands that the attack in Orlando was borne out, at least in part, by a radical Islamic ideology that is bent on the destruction of the West. Whether or not ISIS and radical Islam was the entire motive behind Omar Mateen’s violent attack is not pertinent; the fact he was at least in part inspired by ISIS is central. The threat of radical Islam is now ever-present, and with more migration from the Muslim world, this threat will continue to grow. This fact means that it is of the utmost importance that our leaders in D.C. begin to recognize who we are truly fighting – radical Islam.
