Jeff Sessions reportedly said that they’re looking at DNA testing to save children from traffickers.
Family Research Council President Tony Perkins said on his Washington Watch radio show, after interviewing Attorney General Jeff Sessions, that Sessions is looking at using DNA testing to verify that an immigrant family has come with their own children.
The Daily Caller reports, “Tony Perkins: Sessions Talking To Lawmakers About Using DNA Tests To Verify Parents Of Immigrant Children.”
“Sessions is talking to congressional members and is hoping for a legislative fix. The AG wants an immigration policy that is just, fair and enforceable. They talked about making sure that these really are the parents of these kids,” Perkins said. […] “They are looking at how to use DNA tests in the field to verify they are parents and not traffickers. The reality is if American parents put their kids through what these immigrant parents have done to their kids — they would be charged with child abuse.”

Will this help? It will absolutely help intact families that cross our border and are caught. But crossing our border is still a crime and we still don’t want to jail the children because of what their parents have done.
So what is Sessions planning? Perhaps some kind of family housing while the parents await a hearing.
That might address the media frenzy but what about the abuse Central American children suffer because of their parents? Zero Hedge brought up some of this abuse in their post: “CNN Tries To Shame Border Patrol Agent, Fails.”
CNN brought on Chris Cabrera, a spokesperson for the National Border Patrol Council, Tuesday to discuss the Trump administration enforcing America’s border laws.[…]
CNN’s Brooke Baldwin brought on Cabrera to grill him over the enforcement of the policy. However, it was Baldwin who got the grilling when Cabrera fact-checked her over the status of immigrants at the border.[…]
Cabrera […] bluntly told Baldwin some of the horrors he has seen.
“When you see a 12-year-old girl with a plan B pill, her parents put her on birth control because they know getting violated is part of the journey, that’s a terrible way to live. When you see a 4-year-old girl traveling alone with just her parents phone number written across her shirt.
“We had a 9-year-old boy have heat stroke in front of us and die with no family around. That’s because we’re allowing people to take advantage of this system.”
The retelling of the child horror stories elicited an audible gasp from Baldwin.
Here’s the whole interview:
So what will this policy do for children whose parents are sending them out alone or who are in danger with them from making the journey?
DNA testing may be an improvement, but we still need a wall to dissuade parents from victimizing their own children.
