Conway Corrects McCain’s Nationalist Comments: ‘Trump Governing as Center-Right President’

Kellyanne Conway, aide to the president, came to Trump’s defense against John McCain’s comments about “spurious nationalism.”

He accused Trump of having “some half-baked, spurious nationalism,” and claimed it is “unpatriotic.”

McCain said, “To fear the world we’ve organized and led for 3/4s of a century, to abandon the ideals we have advanced around the globe, to refuse the obligations of international leadership and our duty to remain the last, best hope of earth, for the sake of some half-baked, spurious nationalism, cooked up by people who would rather find scapegoats than solve problems is an unpatriotic as an attachment to any other tired dogma of the past that Americans consigned to the ash heap of history.”

Conway said that Trump is governing more as a “center-right president.”

She continued, “Well, I just don’t see that in the president’s agenda or in his philosophy. His moorings are conservative, and he is governing as a center-right president who believes that we pay too much in taxes, that we’re overregulated, that we have not taken terrorists seriously. We’ve not even been willing to call them terrorists for the last however many years,” Conway added, “This country is safer and more prosperous under President Donald Trump.”

I agree!

Conway concluded, “We hope we can rely upon Sen. McCain’s vote on any number of issues that Sen. McCain has promised the people of Arizona he would do, lowering taxes, getting stronger against terrorism, obviously, again, being for free markets and being for prosperity and security around the globe.”

Considering McCain is hardcore anti-Trump, I doubt we will see any cooperation from him anytime soon, but we can always hope I suppose. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that he doesn’t get reelected!
