C’mon! Everyone Knows New York Values = LIBERAL VALUES!

Why are we still talking about this?

A couple of months back, Senator [score]Ted Cruz[/score] (R-TX) criticized GOP presidential frontrunner Donald Trump by saying that Trump’s “New York Values” wouldn’t fly with the rest of conservative America. Cruz was playing off of something that Trump himself had say some years earlier, “I’ve lived in New York City and Manhattan all my life. So, you know, my views are a little different than if I lived in Iowa — perhaps.”

Now some in the media are attempting to twist what Senator Cruz said into something far more nefarious than it is. Fox News’ Geraldo Rivera has argued that this is proof that Cruz is an anti-Semite; Rivera was joined by CNN’s Jeffrey Toobin who also saw anti-Semitism behind the remark.

“Let’s be honest. He said, New york values are about money and they’re about the media,” CNN legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin said. “That’s an anti-Semitic trope from 100 years, it’s been around for a very long time, everyone in the whole country understands what he was saying.”

Let me be honest with Mr. Toobin. That is utter hogwash. As my friend and devoted Jewish conservative Jeff Dunetz explains, Ted Cruz is the most pro-Israel and pro-Jewish candidate in the race for the White House.

I don’t know many  “anti-Semites” who would fight the president on Jewish issues even when  Jewish members of Congress (Democrats) were silent.  I don’t know many anti-Semites who would support Jews and Israel to a hostile audience. Heck, Ted Cruz was tougher on Chuck Hagel’s and his anti-Israel statements, than Chuck Schumer during Hagel’s confirmation hearing.

As an observant Jew, I can say with confidence that Ted Cruz is not now, nor has he ever been an anti-Semite.

And as for Toobin, his Rabbi should teach him about the concept of Lashen Hara (evil speech). Lashen Hara is a sin that has caused numerous tragedies for the Jewish people, and indeed the world, since the very beginning of history.

Toobin Needs to apologize.

Conservative pundit George Will went further on Fox News Sunday when he argued that Cruz’s New York comments would not come back to bite him because he’s not actually trying to win in New York. Will also pointed out that the comments were not at all racist but had more to do with New York’s penchant for uber-liberal policies.

I don’t think the New York values hurts him in New York because he’s really not trying to win New York, either now or in November. He’s trying to pick up delegates. That’s why he went to a Dominican-Chinese restaurant, you have to love this country, Dominican-Chinese restaurant at the most Democratic district in the country in the Bronx where Mitt Romney got 3% of the vote last time. Why did he go there? Because each of the 27 districts in New York gets three delegates. He can pick them up along the way and hold Mr. Trump below 75 delegates and have a success.

About New York Values, he was not saying New York firemen are any less brave than New Mexico firemen. That is not the point. 9/11 is not the point. He was saying I’m campaigning in a city which last September the City Council voted to honor Ethel Rosenberg, the traitor who with her husband Julius sold out United States secrets to Stalin. This is a city in which the mayor spent part of his youth working for the Sandinistas. There are New York political values and they’re not shared by the rest of country.

Exactly right. Cruz’s comments had nothing to do with “anti-Semitism” and everything to do with New York’s love of everything liberal. While the citizens of New York may be happy with the policies of their liberal politicians, the rest of the nation would bristle at New York’s liberal policies — and that is exactly what Cruz was saying with his “New York Values” commentary.
