Choo Choo! Lindsey Graham Boards the Trump Train

Once a “never-Trumper,” Senator Lindsey Graham has had a change of heart and boarded the Trump train. Full speed ahead!

The South Carolina Senator once thought of Trump as a “race-baiting religious bigot.” However, while guest starring on ABC’s the “View” on Monday, he claims that he no longer believes that.

“Guess what, he’s our president….and he’s doing a great job.”

IJR reports:

Graham and co-host Joy Behar were discussing Trump’s mental fitness when Graham, Trump’s former primary opponent, noted that despite him calling Trump a bigot, he won the presidency in 2016.

“So all I can say is you can say anything you want to say about the guy,” Graham continued, “I said it he was a xenophobic, rate-baiting religious bigot. I ran out of things to say. He won. Guess what? He’s our president.”

After co-host Sunny Hostin pressed Graham on whether he still thought Trump was a “race-baiting, religious bigot,” Graham suggested Trump changed his tone when he became president.

“No I don’t think he’s a xenophobic, race-baiting religious bigot as president,” Graham answered matter-of-factly.

Behar also asked Graham what he thought about Trump’s tweets where he refers to himself as “smart” and “a stable genius.”

Graham responded vaguely, but with an obvious kudos to Trump. He said, “The first thing that I want to tell you: he beat me like a drum.”

While Graham refused to explicitly agree with Trump, he reiterated the president’s message that he beat a large field of Republican candidates, including Graham himself, in the 2016 presidential race.

And in an apparent joke, Graham suggested Trump had to call himself a genius because nobody else would. “I think this, if he doesn’t call himself a genius, nobody else will.”

Graham’s positive view of Trump was apparent as recently as last week when he saidthat under Trump, he was more optimistic about passing immigration reform than he’d been under prior administrations.
