Chile Breaks, Votes to Legalize Abortion in ‘Some Cases’

Up until now, Chile was the only remaining country in South America who stood by their morals and did not allow any abortions. Sadly, they buckled.

On Wednesday, Chile’s Congress just voted to approved a bill that will now legalize abortion in some cases.

According to Fox News, they bill allows for an abortion in three cases:

  1. The mother’s life is in danger due to the pregnancy
  2. The fetus is not viable, meaning it is not capable of surviving or living successfully
  3. In a case of rape

Fox News reports:

President Michelle Bachelet backs the measure and has said she would sign it into law. But it still needs to be approved by Chile’s Constitutional Tribunal.

Opposition senators argue the measure violates the constitution.

Chile legalized abortion for medical reasons in 1931. But abortion was banned under all circumstances during the 1973-1990 dictatorship of Gen. Augusto Pinochet.

I do not agree with abortion at all. I don’t have all the answers and I don’t really know what the best thing would be for the three cases above, but I don’t believe murder is the answer.

I will say that I am thankful they did not open the flood gates on abortion like America did. The percentages of abortions due to those three issues are very minimal. The high reason for an abortion is for not other reason than that the baby did not fit into their plan.
