BREAKING: Anti-Trump Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein Reportedly Tenders Resignation

According to reports, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein has tendered his resignation.

According to reports, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein has tendered his resignation after stories revealed that he said he would wear a wire to secretly record the president in order to invoke the 25th Amendment to oust Trump as president.

According to Axios, Rosenstein has already given a verbal resignation and will present a formal, written resignation later this morning.

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein has verbally resigned to Chief of Staff John Kelly in anticipation of being fired by President Trump, according to a source with direct knowledge. Per a second source with direct knowledge: “He’s expecting to be fired,” so he plans to step down.

Background: Rosenstein talked last year about invoking the 25th Amendment and wearing a wire during Trump meetings, the N.Y. Times’ Adam Goldman and Michael S. Schmidt reported last week. He denied both allegations.

Not all sources agree that Rosenstein has resigned, however.

Some say he is being summoned to the White House to be fired and Rosenstein is refusing to resign demanding that the president fire him instead.

As The New York Times reported:

It was not immediately clear whether he expected to be fired by Mr. Trump or whether he planned to resign. Justice Department officials said on Monday morning that he was on his way to the White House expecting to be fired. But over the weekend, Mr. Rosenstein called a White House official and said he was considering quitting, and a person close to the White House said he was resigning.

It was also unclear whether Mr. Trump would accept a resignation that would likely thrust the administration into further turmoil just weeks before November’s midterm elections. As the top Justice Department official overseeing the special counsel investigation, Mr. Rosenstein had long been the target of Mr. Trump’s bitter grievance about what he calls a politically motivated witch hunt.

Time well tell, but it is a certain thing that Rosenstein has been under a cloud for some time.
