Bill Maher: ‘I Worry That if Half the Country Wants This Guy to be President, we do Need the U.N. to Step In’ [VIDEO]

Real Time host Bill Maher interviewed CNN’s Jake Tapper on Friday. They talked about Tapper’s job and how it’s changed ever since Donald Trump took office.

Tapper acknowledged that “politicians lie,” and that that idea wasn’t invented on January 20 of this year. It’s been going on for decades.

But, he said, he’s never before seen “this level of falsehood, quantitatively.”

“It’s not just ‘if you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor,'” Tapper explained to Maher. “It’s conspiracy theories, based on nothing, that have members of his own party distancing themselves from him,” citing Trump’s claims of millions of illegal votes in the 2016 presidential election, as well as Ted Cruz’s father being involved in JKF’s assassination as examples.

He continued: “And it’s combined with an attempt to discredit the entire fourth estate, the entire media.”

“We’re all ‘fake news,'” Tapper lamented. “All of us except Fox & Friends.

Bill Maher said that there really isn’t any way to counteract the Trump machine’s unsubstantiated claims. “The more you call it out, the more his fans say you’re being biased.”

He said, “The more they see you do that, they go, ‘Oh, well, Trump’s right. [Tapper]’s in the tank for the other side.’ Because everything is so politicized, there is no truth for anybody left.”

“And so, the more you actually do your job well,” Maher said, “the more you’re not given credit by the people who you actually need to convince.”

Tapper wasn’t as cynical: “There’s no bias when it comes to fact and facts, and there’s no bias when it comes to decency,” citing Trump’s alleged [but debunked] mocking of a disabled reporter as an example. “You don’t have to be a Democrat or a Republican, or an independent, or whatever, a socialist, a libertarian – that’s just indecent.” He added: “My children know better than that.”

Maher joked that Trump’s broken every rule in the book “Everything I Needed to Know I Learned in Kindergarten.”

As a solution to the Trump ‘problem,’ Maher suggested that the United Nations be brought it. “Or the United Federation Planets, or something,” he said.

“I always think about that book, ‘Everything I Needed To Know, I Learned In Kindergarten.’ He violates every rule.

“Don’t lie. Don’t accuse people of things that they’re not guilty of. Don’t gloat. Pay your taxes. Serve your country. Don’t be a racist. Don’t insult, like you said, the handicapped people and other people who are not as lucky to be as great-looking as you are, Donald.

“I worry that if half the country wants this guy to be president we do need the U.N. to step in or the United Federation of Planets, or something.”
