Alabama Grocery Store Stops Selling Pepsi Over Anthem-Protesting NFL Logos on Bottles

An Alabama, grocery store has canned its Pepsi sales because the bottler is an advertiser with the anthem-protesting NFL and carries the league’s logo.

An Athens, Alabama, grocery store has canned its Pepsi sales because the bottler is an advertiser with the national anthem-protesting National Football League and carries the league’s logo on its products.

The S&Z Grocery store of Athens posted a message on its Facebook page saying that the store will not be selling 20-ounce Pepsi or Diet Pepsi produced with the NFL logo.

The store wrote:

This may cause me to lose some business, but here goes. S&Z supermarket currently will not be selling 20-ounce Pepsi or Diet Pepsi. These two items are currently produced with the NFL logo on them. I refuse to sell the product until the logo is removed. I will not bow down in order to the make a dollar as long as the athletes are allowed to bow down and disrespect the flag and country that I love.

According to WAFF TV, the decision was made by Phillip Stewart, owner of the S&Z supermarket:

“I don’t want to support them in any way, because I feel like its’s just wrong. I can’t in good conscious sell the product, because it does have the logo on it,” says store owner, said Stewart.

“I pulled them myself, the customers didn’t know I was doing this. I sold the product that I had that did not have the logo on it. And I told my rep as well as the delivery guy that I did not want those brought into the store, because I would not sell them,” added Stewart.

Stewart says most of his customers that come into the store have reacted positively, he has received a few negative phone calls about a Facebook post he made announcing he would not sell the product until the logo is removed. Aaron Bishop, says he is an ex-marine and sees where Stewart is coming from, but the labels don’t bother him.

“Do I personally care? No, I don’t. I’ll grab a Pepsi, I’ll hit my Nike golf clubs. That will make some people mad, but I’ve got other things to worry about,” said Bishop.

Pepsi will feature the NFL logos on its bottles all the way until the Super Bowl early next year.

Stewart said that he isn’t canceling all Pepsi products, just those with the NFL logos.

Americans are still furious about the league’s decision to do nothing as players protest against the country during the anthem, but protests have dwindled to practically nothing this season. These days only about 5 or 6 players are still protesting from the high of several hundred last year.
