Social media giants Twitter and Facebook have been systematically purging conservative users ahead of the 2018 midterm election and in Twitter’s case did so at the behest of the Democrat Party.
Twitter’s excuse for deleting over 10,000 accounts was that the accounts were being used to trick Democrat voters into staying home on Election Day or telling Democrats that their Election Day was a day later than the actual day the polls open.
But according to reports, Twitter did not actually investigate any of the accounts it canceled and chose the accounts from a list supplied to it by the Democrat Party.
As The Blaze reported:
Reuters even characterized it is an “early win” for the partisan group.
Without citing one example, it was reported that the 10,000 Twitter accounts were posting messages to men who would likely vote Democrat, discouraging them from “drowning out” the women’s vote.
According to Reuters, Twitter depended on accounts being identified by tools created by the partisan Democratic group.
There was no indication that the Republican party was given the same consideration as Democrats were in choosing Twitter accounts to be deleted from the social media platform.
Conservatives and others on the right have accused Twitter and other social media companies of discriminating on the basis of political agenda, while those on the left have alleged that Russia has been using “bot farms” to interfere in U.S. elections.
So, to recap: just before the 2018 election, the Democrat Party told Twitter to delete 10,000 user accounts, and without checking Twitter just did it.
Not too transparent, eh?
As to Facebook, last month the social media giant began systematically deleting conservative accounts and has now deleted many thousands of accounts. To paper over its effort to delete conservatives, the service got rid of a tiny handful of left-wing accounts, too. But the largest number of accounts eliminated have been conservative pages.
Their goal is not less than the elimination of all conservative users.
