Special Counsel Robert Mueller got another, er, “big win,” with former Trump man George Papadopoulos being sentenced, on Friday. He got a whole 14 days in jail. And still on nothing related to anything Trump did.
On Friday, George Papadopoulos, a one-time Trump campaign adviser, was sentenced to a big 14 days jail by a federal judge in Washington, D.C.
As Daily Caller reports:
District Judge Randolph D. Moss also ordered a year of supervision, 200 hours of community service and a $9,500 fine for the 30-year-old former Trump aide.
Special counsel Robert Mueller had requested a sentence of between zero and six months for Papadopoulos, who pleaded guilty on Oct. 5, 2017 to lying to the FBI.
Papadopoulos becomes the first Trump associate sentenced in cases involving the special counsel’s office. Alex van der Zwaan, an attorney who worked with Paul Manafort, was sentenced to 30 days in jail on April 3 after pleading guilty to lying to the FBI about his pre-election work with the former Trump campaign chairman.
Papadopoulos pleaded guilty on Oct. 5 to lying to the FBI in a Jan. 27, 2017 interview about the timing and extent of his contacts with a European professor named Joseph Mifsud. Papadopoulos falsely told the FBI that his contact with Mifsud occurred before he joined the Trump team in March 2016.
Notice what all this amounts to, though? Nothing to do with Trump. All these so-called crimes that netted Papadopoulos a huge 14-day sentence had exactly nothing to do with Trump.
As J.D. Gordon, the former director of the Trump campaign’s national security team, said, “At the end of the day he’s just one of many victims of the political witch hunt of the century.”
Gordon added, Papadopoulos “clearly made bad decisions” by lying to the FBI. But he said that Papadopoulos is most guilty of making “rookie mistakes in his budding political career.”
But what George Papadopoulos apparently isn’t is any proof that Trump “colluded” with Russia. And… um… isn’t that what Mueller was supposed to be “investigating”?
