Parents Furious After Grade School Teacher Punishes 10-Yr-Old for Calling Her ‘Ma’am’

A grade school teacher in North Carolina outraged parents when she punished a ten-year-old student for daring to call her… ma’am.

No, really.

According to the boy’s parents, he returned home from school last Tuesday in Tarboro, North Carolina, afraid that his parents would be mad that he perpetrated an evil crime at school.

“I asked him what happened. He said he got in trouble for saying ‘yes ma’am,'” the fifth grader’s mother, Teretha Wilson, told WTVD-TV.

Indeed, the boy showed his parents that the incensed teacher made him write the word ma’am over and over again as punishment.

From ABC 11, Raleigh:

“He had a look on his face of disappointment, shame,” said his father, McArthur Bryant.

Wilson and Bryant said their children were taught to refer to elders as “ma’am” and “sir,” and that Tamarion was not intending to be disrespectful.

“At the end of the day as a father, to feel kind of responsible for that…knowing that I have been raising him and doing the best that I can, it’s not acceptable,” said Bryant.

They added that Tamarion was hospitalized last month for a seizure-related activity, which included memory loss and hallucinations, something the teacher was unaware of.

The boy’s mother worried that he was missing school work while he wasted time writing out his punishment.

The boy also told his parents that the teacher threatened to throw something at him for calling her ma’am.

During the encounter, Wilson said the teacher also told Tamarion that “if she had something, she would have thrown it at him.”

“It wasn’t right. It wasn’t professional. As a teacher, it wasn’t appropriate. And I asked her why she thought it was okay to do that,” said Wilson.

The school approved the parents’ request to put the boy in a different class, but noted that the teacher’s fate will not be reported publicly because it is a “personnel matter.”

Sadly, what we probably had here was some finger-waving, eye-rolling, ignoramus who thinks she is “young” and was wholly ignorant of how children raised to be respectful actually act. I can hear this twerp yelling, “Oh, no you di’ent” and punishing the kid for no legitimate reason other than her witchy vanity.
