John McCain Stopping Cancer Treatment, Family Issues Statement

John McCain who has battled a deadly form of brain cancer known as glioblastoma for more than a year is ending medical treatment, according to his family.

My heart goes out to John McCain and his family. May they find strength during this difficult time. Prayers lifted to him and his entire family.

While I’ve differed with him politically at times, I’ve always respected and appreciated his love and devotion to America. Godspeed!

WASHINGTON — John McCain, the six-term Arizona senator and the Republican presidential nominee in 2008, has chosen to discontinue medical treatment for his brain cancer, his family said Friday.

In a statement, the family said McCain has surpassed expectations for survival, but “the progress of disease and the inexorable advance of age render their verdict.” The family added, “With his usual strength of will, he has now chosen to discontinue medical treatment.”

The senator, who would be 82 next week, has been away from the Capitol since December. More

“Last summer, Senator John McCain shared with Americans the news our family already knew: he had been diagnosed with an aggressive glioblastoma, and the prognosis was serious,” the statement said. ” In the year since, John has surpassed expectations for his survival.

“But the progress of disease and the inexorable advance of age render their verdict. With his usual strength of will, he has now chosen to discontinue medical treatment. Our family is immensely grateful for the support and kindness of all his caregivers over the last year, and for the continuing outpouring of concern and affection from John’s many friends and associates, and the many thousands of people who are keeping him in their prayers. God bless and thank you all.”

Arizona Republican Sen. John McCain, the self-styled “maverick” of the Senate who has served three decades in Congress, will discontinue medical treatment for brain cancer, his family said in a statement Friday.
