President Trump Forges Major Trade Deal with the European Union!

Proving that he truly is a fan of free trade, President Trump surprised the media and his naysayers when he struck an important accord with the European Union earlier this week.

Speaking privately (and publicly) with visiting EU President, Jean-Claude Juncker, Trump explained that he wanted to secure a deal with the EU that would ensure that most of the commerce between the USA and the EU would be tariff free!

This is exactly the kind of deal that Trump has argued he’d prefer to have with all of our trading partners, but sadly, many of them choose to charge us ridiculously high tariffs, simply because they can. Our nation is so wealthy that many of our trade partners believe (and have been proven correct for years) they can charge us whatever they want and we’ll just pay for it.

President Trump has argued that if, for example, Canada (or China) would simply stop charging massive tariffs on the goods we import from them, we would do the same for them. Sadly, Canada refuses to do so.

So, this week, President Trump proved he was telling the truth by signing an important free trade deal with the EU.

President Trump told EU chief Jean-Claude Juncker that he simply wanted a “level playing field” when it came to trade.

Thankfully, Juncker and the EU agreed… happily.

From RCP:

Speaking outside the White House Wednesday, the two leaders announced that they had made a deal. Together the U.S. and E.U. make up more than 50% of world GDP and “if we team up, we could do a lot of good in the world,” they said.

“We’re starting the negotiations now, but we pretty much where they’re going,” the U.S. president said, also adding that all “retaliatory” tariffs would be taken down.

“This was a good, constructive meeting, thank you, Donald,” Juncker said, echoing the announcement Trump made.

“This was a very big day for free and fair trade,” Trump added before leaving without taking questions.
